tool.task_wait.description
Lets the model pause until the background tasks it names have finished, then hands it all their results in one answer.
With several tasks named, it waits for all of them; an early result does not end the wait.
Limits
- The whole answer is capped at 64 KiB, split evenly across the results.
Good to know
- Reaching the timeout is not a failure. The tasks keep running, and the model can wait again or carry on.
- A result the model does not wait for still arrives, on its own in a box row. If the conversation is idle by then, a new turn starts right away to deliver it, even when the conversation is not on screen.
- Waiting stops nothing. The model cannot stop a subagent, workflow or command; you stop one from its row in the Tasks pane (More options → Tasks).
Parameters
| Parameter | Type | Details |
|---|---|---|
tasksTasks | string[] | Task addresses to wait on; omitted waits for every child agent, workflow run and background shell command in this conversation (terminals excluded). |
timeout_secondsTimeout (seconds) | integer | Wait deadline in seconds. Set it to match how long the work should take — a child agent's turn can run for many minutes. Reaching the deadline is not a failure: the tasks keep running and nothing is lost. Wait again, or end the round and the host delivers the result on its own. Default 60 |
