- Turned on by
- The memory switches on the Advanced tools page of Conversation settings.
- Approval
- Reviewed: writes and open-ended actions ask for approval unless the security level or an earlier “Always allow” covers them.
- Profile key
tool.create_global_memory.description
Saves a new document to your global memory and adds its one-line description to the memory index, once you approve it.
The document goes to ~/.mework/memory/ (%USERPROFILE%\.mework\memory\ on Windows), and its description becomes a line in MEMORY.md, which is in context on every run while Enable global memory is on. See Memory and instructions.
When it asks you
Every call asks, at every security level, even when a hook allows it. The card's title, in the app's language, says the change affects memory shared by every project, and there is no Always allow.
Limits
- A write that would grow
MEMORY.mdpast 64 KiB fails.
Good to know
- Mework maintains
MEMORY.md: each write rebuilds it from its index lines and drops anything else. Put standing instructions in~/.mework/MEWORK.mdinstead. - To make the model forget something, delete its file in
~/.mework/memory/. From the next run the model no longer sees it in the index.
